Fraudulent loan scam

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a report was received of a north-end resident being led to believe they owed money for a government loan.

On April 10, at approximately 5:00 PM an unknown male knocked at the victim's door, stating they owed $4500 on a loan they had taken from the government. Before the victim could respond, the male entered the residence sitting at the kitchen table, refusing to leave until the victim gave him a cheque for the above-mentioned amount.

The male left the residence and was seen leaving in a white 2 door Toyota car.

The male was described as a white male, 5’4”, having black bushy hair and wearing jeans and a black jacket with white lettering/logo "AC".

Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime or fraud should report it to their local police and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. Even if no financial loss has been sustained, interactions can still be reported to the CAFC.

Female arrested for Instagram Post

A 25-year-old Guelph female was arrested on April 10th, for publication of intimate images without consent.
The victim reported to police that the female had taken a screenshot of an intimate image off a common partner's phone and posted it to Instagram without their consent.

The 25-year-old female was arrested and released with a court date of May 23, 2025.

Multiple Driving Complaints & Motor Vehicle Collisions

Over the past 24 hours, the Guelph Police Service received reports of two driving complaints and five motor vehicle collisions occurring throughout the City of Guelph.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to slow down and follow the rules of the road to help ensure everyone arrives to their destination safely.
