Driver of stolen U-Haul flees police

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after the driver of a stolen U-Haul truck fled from police Wednesday morning.

Approximately 10:10 a.m. police were called for a possible domestic disturbance involving a male and female outside a truck near Exhibition Park.

Officers arrived and spotted the truck being driven through a parking lot, but when they tried to pull it over to check the occupants’ wellbeing the driver accelerated, driving over grass and a curb and forcing another motorist to swerve onto a curb to avoid contact.

The driver of the U-Haul sped past several cruisers with their emergency lighting activated and was last seen turning onto London Road. Officers located it abandoned a short time later in a parking lot near Paisley Road and Guelph Street. Investigation revealed it had been stolen from a rental business.

The involved male was described as white, 5’8” with a slim build and wearing a dark top, camouflage pants, grey shoes, a high-visibility vest and a hat or hood. The female was described as white, 30-40 years of age, 5’8” with a medium build and wearing a dark winter coat and a scarf. They were last seen on video walking along Rosewood Avenue.
