Toronto men arrested for aluminum theft
Two Toronto men were arrested Sunday night after they were caught trying to steal thousands of dollars in aluminum from a Guelph business.
Just before 11 p.m. police received a call from the owner of a business on Southgate Drive, who could observe three males on camera placing aluminum pallets into their van. They were able to load five 300-pound pallets before officers arrived.
Two of the males were arrested on scene and the third fled on foot.
Two Toronto men, aged 41 and 26, are charged with theft under $5,000. One of the males is already facing charges related to a similar incident in Guelph earlier this year. Both were held for bail hearings Monday.
Weapons charges after downtown arrest
A Guelph man faces weapons and other charges after he was arrested downtown Saturday.
Approximately 2:15 p.m. police were investigating a possible robbery which occurred on Quebec Street after a man reported he was beaten up and had his phone stolen. Officers were confronted by another man, who was upset they were speaking to potential witnesses.
Investigation revealed the second man had been involved in the original incident and he was arrested. A search revealed a collapsible baton in his waistband and suspected morphine.
A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited, possessing a controlled substance, obstructing police and two counts of breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
Drug charges following ongoing investigation
A Guelph man faces a drug charge following an ongoing investigation.
In early 2025, members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into the trafficking of crystal methamphetamine.
As a result of the investigation, a 49-year-old Guelph man was arrested Friday and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking after a quantity of crystal meth was seized. He was held for a bail hearing.
Three vehicles stolen, another recovered
Auto thieves were busy in Guelph this weekend, with three cars stolen and another recovered.
On Sunday afternoon, approximately 3:50 p.m., an officer was patrolling near Victoria Road North and Eramosa Road when his cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted him to a stolen 2024 Mercedes AMG. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver arrested.
A 34-year-old Caledon man is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000. He will appear in court May 20. Police are also investigating the thefts of three vehicles from Guelph.
On Friday evening, a Guelph man reported his grey 2014 Toyota Corolla stolen while visiting a friend near Willow Road and Bagot Street. A spare key was left in the vehicle.
Approximately 4:25 a.m. Saturday, a resident near York Road and Victoria Road South reported his blue 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser missing. He had been awakened by his car alarm and looked outside to find the vehicle missing. Broken glass was discovered at the scene.
At 1:25 a.m. Sunday a resident near Gordon Street and Lowes Road woke up and realized her grey 2024 Lexus RX was missing from the driveway. Neighbours’ surveillance cameras caught three men in the area attempting to enter vehicles before the stolen Lexus is seen driving away.
The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Please report suspicious activity around unattended vehicles, especially during overnight hours.
Home entered while residents slept
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a student house was entered while the residents slept Saturday and a vehicle was stolen.
Sometime between 5 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. a home on Cole Road was entered. While a visitor slept on the living room couch, the suspect removed items from the same room including a MacBook, two gaming systems and the keys to an Acura TL.
The Acura was later recovered from a parking lot on Willow Road. Security video showed a male leaving the Acura and walking to a nearby apartment building carrying some of the stolen property and later leaving the area.
Officers obtained a warrant to search an apartment unit and recovered some stolen property as well as suspected fentanyl. A 56-year-old Guelph man was arrested for possessing stolen property and possessing a controlled substance. He will appear in court May 20.
The male believed responsible for the break and enter has not yet been located.
Impaired charge after driving complaint
A Guelph man faces an impaired driving charge following a driving complaint Saturday afternoon.
At 3:30 p.m. police were notified of a vehicle driving erratically and a short time later observed the driver entering the parking lot of his south-end residence. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where he refused several times to provide a breath sample for analysis.
A 33-year-old Guelph man is charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court April 22.

Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
