Assault, weapons charges laid

A Guelph woman faces assault and weapons charges after another woman was attacked Monday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m. the two, who are known to each other, were involved in a verbal altercation near Silvercreek Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue West. The victim was kicked in the leg causing her to fall to the ground.

The other woman then straddled her and brandished a knife, but the victim was able to knock her arm away and free herself. Officers arrived a short time later and located the suspect in the area.

A 20-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault. She will appear in court August 27.

 

Cyclist struck, driver charged

A cyclist was treated for broken ribs after he was hit by a car Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called approximately 2:20 p.m. to Arkell Road and Victoria Road South. Investigation revealed a eastbound motorist was turning left to go north on Victoria Road when they collided with the westbound cyclist.

The cyclist, a 61-year-old Guelph man, was transported to hospital for treatment. The driver of the car was charged with making an unsafe turn.

 

Trailer stolen from business

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a cargo trailer valued at $13,000 was stolen from a west-end business.

Monday afternoon police were called to a business near Massey Road and Michener Road. The caller advised he returned to work after being off for a week and discovered the trailer had been stolen sometime since July 5.

It is described as a grey 2022 Legend Cyclone 16-foot enclosed trailer with a tandem axle, black spoke rims, chrome checker plate on the front and dents on both sides.
