Male arrested after stand-off
A Guelph male was arrested Wednesday after a neighbour dispute caused a street to be closed while officers negotiated with a male for more than two hours.
Officers were called to the area of Huron Street and Elizabeth Street after several reports of a male outside screaming obscenities at neighbours and passersby. Investigation revealed the male is on probation with a condition not to have contact with some of those same neighbours.
Officers arrived approximately 4:30 p.m. and the male went back inside the residence. Officers attempted to negotiate with him for more than two hours before he was placed under arrest without incident approximately 6:45 p.m.
A 42-year-old Guelph male is charged with causing a disturbance and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.

Equipment not such a bargain
There is an idiom which suggests if something seems too good to be true, it likely is. A Guelph male found that out the hard way Wednesday afternoon.
The male was leaving a business on Stone Road West when he was approached by two males in the parking lot. The males claimed they worked for a technology company and had received extra stock, which they were selling at a discount.
The male viewed the equipment and agreed to purchase a surround-sound system, projector and screen for $2,600. He went to a nearby bank with one of the males and withdrew the cash. He later determined the equipment was not nearly the quality he believed it was.
The first male was described as white, 30-40 years, 6’ tall with dark hair and a thin build. The second was white, late 20s with a thin build and thin beard. Both were wearing grey polo shirts with the name of an audio company on the front. They were driving a white Jeep Cherokee.
The incident remains under investigation.
