Two cruisers struck, male flees
The Guelph Police Service continues to investigate after two cruisers were intentionally struck during a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
Approximately 2:45 a.m. officers on patrol observed a vehicle leaving an address on Willow Road. Queries of the licence plate revealed the owner was wanted for breaching a release order and was subject to house arrest.
Officers conducted a traffic stop nearby, with cruisers stopping in front of and behind the vehicle. The driver reversed, striking one cruiser, then drove forward and hit the other before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot. No injuries were sustained.
A canine track was conducted but the male was not located. A 31-year-old Guelph male is wanted for dangerous driving, flight from police, failing to stop at a collision and breaching a release order.
Officer kicked in face
A Guelph teen faces several charges after a police officer was kicked in the face and a telephone at the police station destroyed on the weekend.
Approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday, police were notified of a male yelling at a female in the area of College Avenue West and Edinburgh Road South. The two were located, but as officers attempted to investigate the male continually interfered to prevent them from speaking to the female.
Eventually the male was arrested for obstructing police. He became assaultive, attempting to head-butt one of the officers before kicking him in the face. The officer was not seriously injured.
At the police station, the male became angry during a telephone call with his father and tore the phone from the wall, rendering it unusable.
A 15-year-old Guelph male is charged with causing a disturbance, obstructing police, assaulting police and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court July 26, 2023.
Attempt business break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an attempted break-in to a west-end business.
Police were called to a business at Speedvale Avenue West and Marksam Road Friday afternoon. The owner advised she arrived at work to find the glass front door smashed, however no entry was gained.

Three impaired driving arrests
Three motorists were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph on the weekend, including two caught in RIDE programs on Canada Day.
Officers set up RIDE spot checks at several locations Saturday night. Two drivers were arrested after failing roadside breath tests, and further testing at the police station confirmed they had more than the legal amount of alcohol in their system.
A 33-year-old Guelph male and 25-year-old Guelph male are each charged with impaired driving. Both had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.
Approximately 12:25 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a gas station in the city’s west end. An employee reported a vehicle had reversed and struck a fuel pump and the driver then appeared to fall asleep. Officers arrived and found the driver still asleep and detected an odour of alcoholic beverage.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more then the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 25-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving. His licence was similarly suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
Drug charges following arrest
A Guelph male faces drug charges after he was found Friday sleeping outside a local business.
Police were called approximately noon to a business on Woodlawn Road West where they found a male dozing off. Investigation revealed he was wanted in another jurisdiction for breaching a probation order and he was arrested.
During a search incident to arrest officers located quantities of fentanyl and heroin, as well as a digital scale and several unused baggies consistent with drug packaging.
A 37-year-old Guelph male is charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking and breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court August 11, 2023.
