Arrest after woman followed, sexually assaulted
A Guelph man was arrested Monday night after a woman was followed and sexually assaulted in front of many witnesses.
Approximately 3:45 p.m. Monday police received several 911 calls about a woman being attacked by a man near Speedvale Avenue West and the Hanlon Expressway.
Investigation revealed the man had followed her for a short distance. While she was waiting at the crosswalk the man pulled down her pants from behind, knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. This was witnessed by several people driving in the area who stopped and intervened.
The victim in her 20s was transported to hospital for treatment.
The suspect fled before officers arrived but was caught on the surveillance video of several nearby businesses and identified. He was located and arrested just after 10 p.m.
A 19-year-old Guelph man is charged with sexual assault and assault. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
Arson arrest after brush fire
A Guelph woman was arrested for arson following an east-end brush fire Monday morning.
Approximately 8:35 a.m. police were called to attend York Road near Victoria Road South by the Guelph Fire Department, which had extinguished a small brush fire. Firefighters believe the fire could have posed a significant threat due to the number of trees in the area. The property is also surrounded by businesses.
Officers located a woman in the area. After speaking to her she was placed under arrest.
A 45-year-old Guelph woman is charged with arson and breaching a probation order. She was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
E-scooter stolen from outside business
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an expensive e-scooter was stolen from outside a downtown business Monday evening.
A Guelph woman parked her grey KQi2 scooter – valued at approximately $800 – outside a business near Gordon Street and Wellington Street. When she came outside approximately 6:40 p.m. it was gone.
Surveillance video showed a male approaching the scooter, stepping on and driving it away. He was described as a white male in his 20s or early 30s, average height and build, light brown or dark blonde hair in a bun and wearing a black sweater with white writing on the front, faded and torn jeans and dark shoes.
