Fatal fire deemed not suspicious

A house fire earlier this week that claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another has been deemed not suspicious in nature.

On Wednesday, the Guelph Fire Department, Guelph Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshall began an investigation with respect to a house fire on Sunset Road in Guelph. A 41-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene and a 40-year-old woman remains in a Hamilton hospital.

After two days of investigation this fire was deemed not suspicious, ending police involvement.

 

Third arrest in expensive bike theft

A third person has been arrested in connection with the theft last month of three expensive bicycles.

Shortly after 5 a.m. February 10, three people were caught on video entering the garage of a home near Norfolk Street and Liverpool Street. They fled with three high-end bicycles with a total value of $6,900.

On Tuesday, a 39-year-old Guelph woman turned herself in to police on an unrelated matter and was arrested for break and enter. On Wednesday a 44-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested on the same charge.

On Thursday afternoon a 38-year-old Guelph man was also arrested for break and enter. All three have been released with upcoming court dates.

 

Woman arrested after man seriously injured

A Guelph woman has been arrested after a man was seriously injured last month.

On February 17, a woman contacted police to report her friend had been injured. Investigation revealed a man in his 50s had been visiting a female friend when she abruptly picked up a clay planter and struck him on the head, causing a large laceration. He was also struck twice in the head with a drill, causing further injuries, before he was able to flee the home.

He attended hospital for treatment of his injuries.

On Thursday a 39-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. She will appear in court June 6.
