Arrest on theft of $11k in alcohol

A Guelph man believed to be part of an organized theft ring responsible for stealing more than $11,000 in alcohol from local LCBO stores has been arrested.

Between May and August, 2024, eight different men entered various LCBO locations in Guelph and committed thefts. Approximately $11,200 worth of alcohol was stolen during seven incidents, including one in August in which pepper spray was pointed at employees who attempted to stop them.

A stolen vehicle was used to commit some of the thefts.

This week a 32-year-old Guelph man was arrested for 13 counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts of occupying a stolen motor vehicle. He is in custody on unrelated matters and will return to a Guelph court April 22. The investigation is ongoing.

Driving leads to drug charge

A Guelph man faces a drug charge after he was spotted driving while suspended early Tuesday.

Just after 3 a.m. officers were patrolling near Dawson Road and Shelldale Crescent when they saw a vehicle pulling into a parking lot. Officers approached the driver as he walked away from the vehicle but he ignored their attempts to speak to him.

It was determined the man is a suspended driver as a result of a recent impaired driving arrest, and is also bound by a bail order with a condition not to drive. He was arrested and during a subsequent search officers located a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.

A 40-year-old Guelph man is charged with driving while suspended, failing to comply with a release order and possessing a controlled substance. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
