Man arrested after south-end collisions
A Kitchener man faces several charges following a series of collisions in the south end Wednesday morning.
Just after 9:30 a.m. emergency services were called to Gosling Gardens. Witnesses observed a silver Cadillac sedan travelling at a high speed and driving through a stop sign before the driver lost control and left the roadway. The car struck a recycling cart, causing it to hit a parked car and dislodge some body work. Pieces of the cart also struck the house, causing minor damage.
The Cadillac then struck two vehicles parked in a driveway, causing extensive damage to both, before striking and uprooting a tree and coming to rest on its side. Witnesses saw a male with blood on his face exit the Cadillac and run into a backyard. Investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Waterloo Region earlier in the morning.
Officers contained the area and Police Service Dog Echo located the man hiding in a tarp nearby. He was arrested and transported to a Hamilton hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Due to the nature of the driving and the presence of used drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, officers believe the male was impaired and asked for blood to be taken for further analysis.
A 39-year-old Kitchener man faces charges including motor vehicle theft, possessing stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving, impaired driving, failing to stop after an accident and driving while prohibited. He will appear in court May 16.
