Driver arrested, vehicle seized
A Guelph woman was arrested and had her vehicle seized for 90 days early Thursday while trying to do a favour for a friend.
Officers were patrolling near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue just after 1 a.m. when they observed a vehicle reversing from a parking spot. They spoke to the driver and determined she is required to have an ignition interlock device on her vehicle as a result of an earlier impaired driving conviction.
The vehicle was not equipped with the device. The woman told police she was just dropping off cigarettes for a friend.
A 51-year-old Guelph woman is charged with driving while prohibited. She will appear in court May 6. Her vehicle was impounded for 90 days.
Road rage leads to impaired charge
A road rage incident Thursday night led to impaired driving charges against a Guelph man.
Just before 10 p.m. police were contacted by a male wishing to report an assault. He said he and his friends were driving near Paisley Road and Imperial Road North when the driver of another vehicle began honking his horn and following the complainant.
Both vehicles eventually stopped on Stephanie Drive and the occupants of both exited to confront each other. Both described the others as the aggressors.
While speaking to one of the drivers officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his mother’s vehicle was impounded for 90 days. He will appear in court April 11.
The road rage incident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the altercation or has information is asked to call Constable Karson Massey at 519-824-1212, ext. 7594, or email kmassey@guelphpolice.ca.
