Brothers arrested in child porn investigation
Two Guelph brothers were arrested Friday as part of an ongoing child pornography investigation.
Last October, the Guelph Police Service received information from the US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being uploaded to social media from a Guelph address.
In February officers executed a search warrant at a west-end address and seized nine electronic devices for further examination. As a result of those examinations, two Guelph men were arrested Friday.
A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man are each charged with possessing and accessing child pornography. The younger brother is also charged with making child pornography available. Both will appear in court May 16.
This investigation was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
Parking lot dispute leads to assault charge
A parking lot dispute led to assault and threatening charges for a Guelph man Sunday.
Approximately 12:30 p.m. two males were involved in a verbal dispute at a plaza on Eramosa Road after one was loading groceries into a taxi, which prevented the other from leaving his parking spot.
During the altercation, one of the males brandished a knife and threatened to harm the other.
A 27-year-old Guelph man was located Sunday evening and arrested for assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He will appear in court May 13.
Arrest after owner interrupts break-in
A Guelph man faces several charges after a homeowner interrupted a break-in Friday morning.
Shortly after 9 a.m. police were called to the area of Greengate Road and Applewood Crescent. A homeowner said he arrived at the home to find someone inside attempting to steal belongings. The suspect shoved the complainant, dropping the stolen items and fleeing on foot. He was located at a nearby business with assistance from a Waterloo Regional Police canine unit.
A search of the man revealed a switchblade knife, box cutter and flashlight.
A 53-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter, assault, possession of break-in instruments, unauthorized possession of a weapon and breaching an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
Ram pickup stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Ram pickup was stolen from a west-end address.
Early Saturday morning, a resident near Paisley Road and Stephanie Drive reported her white 2016 Ram had been stolen from the parking lot of her townhouse complex sometime overnight.

Young driver taken off road
A Guelph man lost his licence for three days after a call about a possible impaired driver on the weekend.
Approximately 12:15 a.m. Sunday staff of a licensed establishment on Woodlawn Road West called about a male in his car who had been drinking. Officers arrived and located the vehicle in the parking lot with the driver sitting inside.
After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, however further tests confirmed he was just under the legal limit for driving. A 19-year-old Guelph man is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with being a young driver having alcohol in his system. His licence was suspended for three days.
Owner of tools sought
The Guelph Police Service is seeking the owner of some recently-recovered tools.
The bag of tools was recovered during a recent investigation. There are identifying marks inside the bag to assist with confirmation of ownership.
