Man arrested in downtown hit and run

A Kitchener man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run that sent a pregnant woman to hospital.

Just after 1 a.m. April 6, police were called to Guelph General Hospital where they spoke to a woman who had sought medical attention following a collision as she was seven months pregnant.

Approximately half an hour earlier she was stopped at a red light at Gordon Street and Fountain Street when her vehicle was rear-ended by a white SUV. The driver of the SUV quickly reversed and fled the scene.

After the Guelph Police Service issued an appeal to the public, the driver of the white SUV was identified. On Tuesday he was arrested by another police service.

A 31-year-old Kitchener man is charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. He will appear in court June 25.
