Impaired, drug and weapons charges

A Kitchener woman faces impaired driving, drug and weapons charges after she was found Tuesday passed out in a vehicle in downtown Guelph.

Just after 7:30 a.m. police were called for a suspicious vehicle parked near Woolwich Street and Suffolk Street East. A witness reported a woman passed out in the driver’s seat.

Officers arrived a short time later and found the woman still unconscious. They also observed medical tubing in her lap which was attached to a burned glass tube. They opened the door and saw a baggie of suspected crystal methamphetamine hanging out of her pocket.

She was arrested and transported to the police station, where a trained expert determined her ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by consumption of a narcotic.

A search of the vehicle revealed quantities of suspected crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine in separate baggies. Officers also found Dilaudid pills and fresh cannabis, as well as a scale, drug paraphernalia, a debt list, cash and a knife opened by centrifugal force.

A 49-year-old Kitchener woman is charged with impaired operation, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a prohibited weapon and disobeying a court order. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her rental car was impounded for seven days. She was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.

West-end business break-in

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a break-in early Tuesday at a west-end business.

Just before 7:30 a.m. police were called to a business near Massey Road and Elmira Road North after the owner arrived to find a glass door smashed. Officers cleared the building but did not find anyone inside.

Surveillance video showed a male walking past the business at 4:13 a.m. and returning two minutes later with a rock, which he threw at the door repeatedly until it broke and then entered the business. Nothing was reported to be missing.

The suspect was described as white, wearing a brown or tan jacket, black pants, black gloves and black shoes with white soles. He was carrying a black and orange bag.

Man confronts officers, gets arrested

A Guelph man faces charges after officers responding to a family dispute were confronted by an aggressive male.

Approximately 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a south-end residence, where the homeowner was asking to have a male relative removed from the property. Officers asked the male to leave but he refused, running into the backyard and going onto an elevated deck.

As officers continued to speak to the male, he came off the deck and walked aggressively towards them with clenched fists. A conducted energy weapon was deployed and the male was taken into custody. A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault police, failing to leave when directed and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
