Fake bomb threat leads to charges

A woman who falsely reported overhearing a bomb threat against a Guelph bank Monday was later arrested.

Approximately 10:30 a.m. Guelph Police Service officers were called to a south-end bank. Staff indicated a woman had entered the branch and claimed she heard two men talking about placing a bomb inside the bank building before leaving quickly.

The bank was closed for several hours per their procedure while the building was extensively searched. Based on a description and surveillance camera images, the woman was located nearby. Investigation revealed her claims to be untrue.

A 38-year-old Guelph woman is charged with public mischief. She will appear in a Guelph court October 28, 2022.

 

Assault and threats charges laid

A Guelph man spent a night in custody after another man was assaulted inside his own home Monday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m. police were called to a home in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Greengate Road. The caller advised a male known to him had entered the residence and assaulted the victim. He also uttered threats and caused damage to a wall before leaving the residence.

The accused was located approximately 90 minutes later and arrested. A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault, uttering threats and mischief. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

 

Break and enter to garage

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a garage at a south-end residence was entered this week.

Approximately 8:40 a.m. Monday police were called to a home in the area of Downey Road and Hazelwood Drive. Sometime overnight someone pried open an exterior door to gain entry to the garage. Two vehicles parked inside were entered and some personal property stolen.

Pry marks were also observed on interior doors leading into the home, but no access was gained.

The incident remains under investigation.
