The Guelph Police Service is warning the community about Rogers / Bell scam.

The Guelph Police Service is currently investigating multiple reports from members of the community that they are receiving fraudulent service promotions from individuals claiming to work for either Rogers or Bell. There are variations in how information is being obtained by the scammers, but this scam is unique in that community members report that they have both received a phone call and had someone visit their home in person.

The scammers pretend to work for Bell or Rogers and state that they are offering victims a discount or lower rates. They use convincing stories to collect as much personal information from victims as possible, even offering to meet victims at their homes to obtain more information or to help victims register for programs and services. Upon completing the phone call, victims find their legitimate Rogers or Bell account information and details have been changed and personal information compromised.
A description of a male involved in the current scam had been described as in his 30s, brown-skinned, carrying a notebook, with a slight East-Indian accent, cleanly dressed, and driving a 4-door white sedan.

Anyone with information or have had a similar occurrence is asked to call the Guelph Police Service at 519-824-1212 or leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
